It's a jungle out there

I went and asked the West wind
why the west wind blew,
but the west wind kept on blowing
blowing straight and true.

I went and asked the monkey
where the monkey put his nut,
the monkey looked at me blankly
and kept his monkey mouth shut.

I swam and asked the porpoise
what his porpoise was,
he jumps and leaps and smiles
but wont tell me why he does.

I crawled and asked the tortoise
what he kept hidden in his shell,
the tortoise didn't say anything
but his look said go to hell.

I think I must have asked all nature
what they're for and why they're here
but I never had an answer
though I travelled far and near.

So now I'm lying on my hammock
in my jungle shack,
looking at the ceiling and
scratching at my back.

And I'm thinking and thinking
what the real question is,
what am I here for?
and what is making my back itch?

Still I find no answers
staring up at the ceiling thatch,
so I'll just continue lying here
and scratch and scratch and scratch.
